Empower Yourself with the Vocabulary of Success

woman thoughts vocabulary of success

The words you use carry energy and have the power to influence what happens in your life and work.  Many of these words were programmed into you as a child along with the belief systems they support.  Simply being aware of our words and shifting our language can lead to higher energy and success.

Imagine this:

You wake up and start an inner dialog: I’m still tired. It’s dreary outside. I have a long day ahead of me.  I have to go here and then I have to do that. Today is going to be tough. I think I will skip working on that idea I had.  It won’t work anyway. I wish I could just stay in bed.

Now, imagine starting your day with the Vocabulary of Success:

What do I get to do today? Who can I connect with?  I love my clients and am grateful to be able to do this work. I think I will play with that new idea and see what I can create. It should be fun. Today is a gift and I want to live it fully.

What do you want for yourself?

Even if you are not feeling positive and proactive, you can start moving that direction by changing the words you use to ones that uplift and empower you.  Pay attention to your inner and outer dialogs and choose your words wisely.

Beware the Vocabulary of Failure:

Hard – Can’t – Have to – Should – Must – Tired –and anything that feels heavy when you say it.

Embrace the Vocabulary of Success:

Get to – Play with – Grateful – Enjoy – Fun – Curious – and anything that feels light and uplifting.

The good news is that our vocabulary choices are just like habits. When you create a pattern of using empowering language, it will become your new normal.

So, now I’m curious about you. How have your word choices affected your life, mood, and work? Do you have any words in your vocabulary that you would like to commit to shifting?

  1. can you please tape the positive words for me and send them to my local radio station so that they will be broadcast them now every day mo-fri at 6:15 🙂
    that would be awesome!

  2. Linda,

When I read your post it reminded of the time I was preparing to go on my first cruise. I wanted to be totally ready in case we got seasick, so I ordered a prescription for pills that would correct the problem in case it occurred.

When I went to pick up the prescription, I was told they were $20, for each of the three of us. Gulp! That just seemed way too expensive for something that was to solve a problem I didn’t even have at the moment.

The pharmacist, getting impatient with me as I recovered from shock, said grumpily, “Well, do you want them or not?”

I snapped back to my senses and replied, “No! I just decided that we are not going to get seasick.”

And we didn’t. Not on that cruise or any other cruises since.

  3. great reminder. Just be quiet when you say the words, say the negative words first, see how you feel, then say the positive words, and see how you feel. what a huge difference. and imagine what you are doing to yourself.
